It's no secret that Fabien, our partner midwife, is the husband of Audrey, one of the two co-founders of Daylily Paris. Maybe you recognize it or does it look a little familiar? It's probably because you met him on our stand at the Baby Show or you came across him during his appearance on TV shows such as the nursery house where he had the pleasure of speaking several times. times…
He is at the genesis of Daylily Paris because he himself was the inspiration for Audrey. Indeed, it was thanks to this meeting that the idea of creating a brand that would pamper pregnant women was born.
For you, we asked him to answer a few questions to get to know him better but also to share some advice with you.
If you want to ask him a question, feel free to leave a comment and he will do his best to answer it.
Can you introduce yourself quickly?
It has now been 10 years since I had the chance to work in the exciting and very diverse profession of midwife.
I worked in different maternity hospitals ranging from large university hospitals to small private clinics, almost everywhere in mainland France but also in Guadeloupe and Tahiti. This allowed me to open up to different cultures but also to improve my practice by enriching myself with new experiences.
After 7 years spent in the hospital environment, I decided to set up in private practice and specialize in preparation for childbirth. Indeed, after having assisted several hundred births, I have noticed that preparation is essential for a woman to be able to fully experience this moment and keep good memories of it.
Thus, in order to offer complete, effective and adapted preparation courses for my patients, I followed several training courses which enriched my courses such as sophrology, medical hypnosis and postures during labor taught by the doctor recognized for his work on the subject, Dr Bernadette de Gasquet.
Was midwifery a vocation for you?
No, not initially. It was at the end of my second year of medicine, when I wanted to move into dentistry, that I was offered Midwifery school. At the time, I was starting to tell myself that a doctor wasn't really for me because I wanted to have a more "personal" approach with my future patients. I was thinking about going to nursing school, but when I was offered midwifery, I said to myself “why not!” ". It was obvious to my mother. She told me: “It was the midwives who leaned over your cradle when you were born…” because she had a very complicated pregnancy and was hospitalized in the first months of her pregnancy. She then formed a very strong relationship with the midwives who were there for her and to help her.
Today, it’s obvious and I don’t see myself doing any other job than that!
What is the best advice you give to your patients?
Not to mention medical advice which can vary greatly from one woman to another and depending on the various situations, I tell them to make the most of their pregnancy. These are precious moments in a woman's life. You have to take care of yourself and your child growing in your body. This sometimes requires adapting your lifestyle, reducing your professional activity, eating a balanced diet, pampering yourself... By trying to do too much, you risk missing the essentials. And even if it's not always easy sometimes, you have to refocus on the positive: the fact that you are going to bring a child into the world!
Do you recommend that your patients use cosmetic treatments during their pregnancy?
Yes quite ! Although it is true that genetic heritage plays a large part in the quality of the skin and its tendency to "crack" or not, I am convinced that the diligent use of prevention products can limit or even avoid the appearance stretch marks. Having seen many pregnant women in my career, there are many who regret not having paid more attention. I therefore really advise my patients to use appropriate care from the start of their pregnancy and, of course, I recommend Daylily Paris care in which I have great confidence, unlike other brands (sometimes even among the maternity care…). The real pluses are that they are natural, that they can be used from the first month of pregnancy and that they are compatible with breastfeeding because they do not contain “questionable” ingredients. And what’s more, the textures and smells are very pleasing.
What is your role within Daylily Paris?
I have a bit of a dual role... Like any husband, I support my wife on a daily basis because the entrepreneurial adventure is not always easy and congratulations to her for the energy and courage she deploys for this project. So I do my best to support and help him. I also have the role of expert and I provide my professional opinion. I also take part in a few events by offering a workshop on breastfeeding or on childbirth postures. And finally, I also suggest that my patients get involved in the project, particularly to get their opinion on the scents or textures of the products, etc.
