The breasts, a particularly fragile area
If the chest must be the subject of all attention, especially during pregnancy, it is because it is a particularly fragile area of the body, which tends to sag and become marked if she does not benefit from good support and appropriate care. A breast, in fact, does not contain muscles: it is composed only of glandular, fibrous and adipose tissues. Working the pectoral muscle, which is located just behind the breasts, will have little effect on their appearance.
On the other hand, wearing suitable lingerie and providing them with a good dose of hydration with targeted care are sine qua non conditions for maintaining firm breasts without stretch marks, even after birth.
First of all, wear a bra that fits your size : you will probably need to change it several times during the three trimesters of pregnancy, and again when the baby is born if you want to breastfeed. Just after childbirth, lactation begins: the first flow of milk appears and can cause engorgement. You should know that young mothers take on average one bra size after the arrival of their child! You can opt for a bra with or without underwire, a maternity bra or directly for a nursing bra. The main thing is to have support and comfort, because the breasts can be painful during this particular period.
Just like the stomach, the breasts can become covered with stretch marks during pregnancy. The reason is quite simple: the skin stretches quickly and ends up cracking when it reaches its maximum stretching capacity. Stretch marks are red or purple marks that reflect inflammation of the dermis. Over time, they turn pearly white and remain embedded in the skin like scars.
This is a good reason for every pregnant woman to take care of her chest with a suitable product as soon as she announces her pregnancy, as well as all areas subject to great tension (stomach, buttocks, hips, lower back, thighs.)
How to massage your breasts during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
By increasing in size, the breasts often become sensitive and a source of pain. You may not be very motivated to massage them in these conditions, but I promise, it's worth it.
There are several massage techniques for the fragile breasts of future and young mothers:
- Effleurage : breast massage does not need to be pressed to be effective! If your nipples are sensitive, use the effleurage method to massage gently. Take a small amount of anti-stretch mark oil in the palm of your hands. Start from the base of the breast, and go up to the neck with slow and gentle movements. Your fingers should graze the skin, without pressing. Imagine that your breast is a wave, and you are riding that wave from the bottom up.
- The figure 8 massage : it is ideal for stimulating skin tissues and releasing tension in the breasts and nipples during pregnancy or in case of engorgement. Place your hand under one breast and make slow movements in a figure 8 shape. You go over the breast, then under it, then over the second one, then under it. This technique increases drainage and softens the breast tissue.
- Nipple massage : this is the recommended massage in case of engorgement. If you are breastfeeding, you will certainly face this problem one day or another. Engorgement occurs when breast milk production is too great compared to baby's feedings: it then accumulates in the mammary gland in large quantities, which is often very painful. Your breasts become hard, hot and tight, and the engorgement, if not dissolved quickly, can develop into mastitis and require antibiotics.
You can of course put your baby to the breast and offer him a breastfeed to relieve yourself, but if that is not enough, if you have too much milk, we advise you to perform a nipple massage – also called an areola massage. Using a finger, make small circular movements around the areola to soften it. Little by little, the breast regains its suppleness. Continue this for a few minutes until the expression phase begins, and a small amount of milk flows from the nipple.
Which product for breast massage?
Whether your goal is to avoid stretch marks during pregnancy or to unclog the breasts during breastfeeding, the same question arises: which treatments should be used for application to the fragile area of the chest? Does lambda oil do the trick?
As you know, all the ingredients in your cosmetics pass the skin barrier, then the placental barrier. They can also be found in breast milk. Some so-called “natural” ingredients, such as essential oils, can be much too concentrated and have a deleterious effect on baby's growth and health. So be careful during and after pregnancy when choosing your beauty products!
To take care of yourself without asking any questions, it is best to opt for a massage oil specially formulated for pregnant and breastfeeding women, like our Huile Sensorielle.
