Itching, a surprise guest of pregnancy
Itching during pregnancy is a fairly common phenomenon, affecting 40% of pregnant women. And to better understand why these itchy sensations appear in expectant mothers, we just need to look, once again, at the level of hormones.
If these hormones are absolutely essential, in particular to ensure the growth of the uterus and the fetus and to prepare for breastfeeding, their presence can also cause some small inconveniences. They have drier skin that feels tight and always seems thirsty!
We're not drawing a picture for you: when the skin becomes drier, it becomes uncomfortable, loses its suppleness and elasticity (watch out for stretch marks!) and can be accompanied by itching (also called pruritus). These usually appear in the third trimester, and intensify as the delivery approaches. They primarily invade the stomach, the area subject to the greatest tension in a mother-to-be, but they can also appear on the thighs, buttocks, arms...or even all over the body.
Of course, if you already have atopic skin, prone to red patches, eczema, and rashes, the itching may become a little more severe once you are pregnant.
No need to worry, however, they are, in the vast majority of cases, completely benign and disappear after childbirth.
Important: if you have stomach pain during pregnancy or if the itching becomes intense , especially on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet, if no remedy relieves it and if it is accompanied by other symptoms (jaundice ), you should consult a doctor quickly. This itching may be a sign of pregnancy-induced cholestasis, a liver dysfunction that occurs in the third trimester and poses a risk to the health of the fetus. Do not delay in seeking medical advice if you suspect this type of pathology.
Our tips for relieving an itchy stomach during pregnancy
Firstly, you must avoid all bad habits that can worsen skin dryness . Baths that are too long and too hot and skincare products that are a little too harsh should be avoided.
Avoid rubbing too much to dry yourself, gently dab your body with a soft towel to blot up the water.
As for clothing, during pregnancy we avoid all clothes that are too tight, which “rub” the skin and accentuate its dryness, and those made of synthetic fibers, which are not gentle enough for the skin.
If you are pregnant during the summer, avoid going outside during the hottest hours or during a heatwave. Heat and perspiration will indeed irritate the skin… and make you scratch! You will also limit the risk of seeing the famous pregnancy mask appear...
Finally, the best remedy to relieve an itchy stomach is certainly to use a very moisturizing pregnant woman's cream or a sheet mask impregnated with serum, which will restore the balance of the skin to keep it healthy and soothe the tingling. Small selection of anti-itching products 100% suitable for pregnancy!
What treatments to reduce itchy skin?
Your mission, if you accept it: to offer a concentrate of hydration to your skin to keep it supple and comfortable during pregnancy, and relegate itching to the rank of bad memory.
We have a solution: it’s the My Baby Bump Box ! Le Lait Fondant, with its creamy cream texture, envelops the skin in softness (without leaving a greasy film), while L'Huile Sensorielle, our beneficial dry oil with a sweet biscuit scent, allows for long, relaxing massages. La Pause Douceur, our soothing fabric mask for the stomach, is your ally to instantly relieve feelings of tightness and itching.
These three treatments contain a natural anti-stretch mark active ingredient, Dermochlorella, which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which is damaged during pregnancy. Your skin softens more easily to keep up with your weight gain and avoid cracking.
Because our formulations give pride of place to natural ingredients, better tolerated by the sensitive skin of pregnant women, we have combined it with a complex of five organic vegetable oils with nourishing and soothing properties : Avocado, Macadamia and Olive oils, Rose Muscat, and Sweet Almond.
The effectiveness of these vegetable oils for taking care of the skin no longer needs to be proven. Avocado oil, for example, contains essential fatty acids which offer real comfort to weakened and dehydrated skin. Sweet Almond soothes tightness and itching for supple and comfortable skin. Entrust your future mother's skin to expert products without ingredients harmful to your health and that of the baby!
In fact, Daylily face and body treatments have been validated by an independent expert toxicologist, to guarantee their complete safety. They are therefore 100% safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and you can pamper yourself without asking any questions!
Our advice: apply Le Lait Fondant in the morning, and L'Huile Sensorielle in the evening, from the first month of pregnancy, paying particular attention to areas of tension (breasts, stomach, buttocks, lower back, etc.). They can of course be used all over the body to reduce dry skin.
An itch occurs in the meantime? Avoid scratching, take out your favorite pregnant woman treatment, and apply a small amount, massaging well to make it penetrate and see immediate relief !
