“Cow’s milk is for calves”
If breast milk is natural and undeniably the best milk for a baby, let's not forget that the formulas of infant milk are worked to get as close as possible. Far from being a simple “cow's milk”, they contain lipids, vitamins, iron and trace elements, to meet your baby's needs and promote their good development. No guilt: powdered milk will allow your child to grow well and healthy !
“You won’t have enough milk to breastfeed”
A gratuitous remark, and totally unjustified to discourage breastfeeding. Let it be said: lactation and the quantity of breast milk have absolutely nothing to do with the size of your breasts. All women after childbirth produce colostrum, then breast milk, and more than 99% of young mothers are physiologically able to breastfeed. It may happen that milk production struggles to develop, that baby does not suck well: don't panic, this is quite common in the first days. In this case, do not hesitate to consult a lactation consultant (for example at La Leche League) who will help you get through the first weeks of breastfeeding. Good to know: skin-to-skin contact with your child is a very good way to stimulate milk flow after baby is born.
“The bottle is not very practical”
Of course, the bottle requires a little work : you have to wash and sterilize it, heat it in the middle of the night, and make sure you always have a can of milk in advance. And sometimes walking around with your water bottle and bottle warmer so you can get baby food at any time :-). As such, breastfeeding may seem like an easier option on a daily basis. You can always say that those around you are welcome to help you manage the bottles – family and friends will certainly be delighted to be able to feed your baby when they visit you!
“You should breastfeed to lose weight”
It is recognized that the production of breast milk requires a lot of energy, and your body will therefore draw on fats to maintain lactation at a sufficient level. Babies' feedings will also cause micro-contractions in breastfeeding women: these will help young mothers to regain a flat stomach more quickly. However, losing weight after childbirth is not dependent on natural breastfeeding : by eating healthily, by practicing a sport such as walking, you will achieve this without worries, and by ignoring bad language!
“He’s always going to be stuck with you.”
Yes, breastfeeding helps create the mother-child bond, which can sometimes be close. But tender moments also await the mothers who give the bottle, and fortunately! In both cases, an infant needs the presence of his mother and parents for his development.
“You are not promoting the bond with his dad”
Obviously, if breastfeeding is complete, the dad will not be able to take your place. But he will be able to help you change your baby, bathe him, rock him, do skin to skin, play with him... There are many ways to create a bond with your child when you become parents, and they are not limited to not at feedings ;-)
“Hello unexpected milk surges”
Yes, if you are breastfeeding – or during weaning – you will probably experience the surges of milk that occur without warning and a few wet t-shirts due to excess milk! A disadvantage of lactation which is not really one, since you just need to protect your nursing bra with pads. And presto, neither seen nor known!
“Do you want your breasts to sag?” »
Let's set the record straight: breastfeeding is not responsible for “sagging breasts”, rather we must point the finger at weight variations caused by pregnancy and after childbirth. Remember to preserve your breasts with suitable bras, and to use a firming cream like our Baume Onctueux after the birth of your baby.

“Breastfeeding hurts”
Your first steps into breastfeeding can be complicated, and marked by painful feedings. This is particularly the case if the infant is not correctly installed, if he positions his mouth incorrectly and does not sufficiently encompass the nipple, if he has not acquired the sucking reflex, or in the event of congestion. With a little practice and some good advice , you will quickly find your cruising speed!
“Breastfeeding is tiring”
Obviously, the breastfeeding mother is on the front line, night and day, for weeks, to ensure baby's meals! To allow the dad or those around you to help you, you can offer to give the child, from time to time, a bottle of breast milk, which you have collected with a breast pump. Take advantage of this rest time to give yourself a few hours of well-deserved sleep :-) Before the baby is born, pregnant, it is also important to take care of yourself, don't be afraid to slow down and treat yourself to a moment of relaxation and rest with La Pause Douceur.

We stop there, because the list of arguments, false or proven, can be very long on one side or the other. Exclusive breastfeeding, mixed breastfeeding, bottle feeding: it's up to you to weigh the pros and cons according to your wishes, keeping in mind that nothing is set in stone and that you can change your mind at any time, even after the baby is born. The choice you make will necessarily be the right one since it will be yours, made with your instinct and your convictions as a young mother!
