Why use a day cream with SPF during your pregnancy?
Is day cream part of your pregnancy beauty routine? That's great, because hydrating your hormonally battered skin is essential! But during your pregnancy, it's even recommended to go further and combine it with sunscreen to take care of your pretty face!
Why? Simply because your body, subject to significant hormonal changes, becomes more sensitive to the sun and UV rays (both UVA and UVB). This is true during your pregnancy, but also during breastfeeding. You naturally produce more melanin – responsible for the dark pigmentation of the skin. Normally, it gives you a nice tan; during your pregnancy, it can have some (unpleasant) surprises in store for you! Sun exposure is not prohibited, but it is advisable to take some precautions, whatever the season.
Of course, the usual recommendations remain in place, more than ever: protect yourself with sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat, avoid sun exposure between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., and generally avoid overexposure. Take advantage of the shade whenever possible.
The risk is indeed to see the appearance of the much-dreaded " pregnancy mask ", also called "melasma" or "chloasma". Brown spots can then invade areas exposed to the sun: your face, but also your neck and décolleté... You should know that all phototypes, from light skin to dark skin, are affected : no hard feelings! But brunettes with dark skin are even more at risk of catching it.
And when you know that it can take several months to disappear – and that, in rare cases, it never completely disappears – it's better to take precautions and do everything to avoid it! Using a cream with maximum sun protection every day then makes perfect sense. You still need to choose the one that will be best suited to your skin as a future mother, and the specific needs of your skin that result from it!
