Why prepare for postpartum?
You've just added to your family : whether you're new to motherhood or already looking after older children, your daily life changes suddenly. Your sleep is divided into short bursts, your emotions are far from smooth sailing, and some aches and pains create a need for gentleness. Nearly one in two mothers experience a temporary baby blues ... which calms down more quickly when the body finds comfort and rest.
The more informed you are, the easier it becomes to prepare for the aftermath with essentials that make a difference. Every item placed in your maternity suitcase reduces minor worries and leaves room for tenderness. Knowledge becomes your ally ; these essentials, ready before the big day, transform the first hours into a sweet interlude for you and your baby.
Mama Saver: 1 postpartum kit, 6 key actions
Right after birth, your perineum, your emotions, and your skin need a lot of gentleness. The Mama Saver Postpartum Kit is your ally in the first few days postpartum!
• Put a hot/cold gel strip in your suitcase; placed cold on the sensitive area, Mama Cool calms and relieves pain related to childbirth or breastfeeding. The same strip, warmed up, soothes uterine cramps.

• A shower head for intimate areas makes first trips to the toilet easier: Mama Pschitt is used upside down, its easily adjustable jet washes without rubbing and immediately soothes the area sensitized by childbirth. Ideal for relieving burning sensations when urinating and for cleaning without irritation . Light and discreet, the bottle slips easily into a bag (why not the changing bag). You can take it to the maternity ward and then when you travel, to keep this soothing comfort wherever you go.
• During postpartum, skin-to-skin contact remains your best ally; a soft skin-to-skin band (like our Mama Louve) keeps baby against your chest, stabilizes its temperature and promotes the secretion of oxytocin, the bonding hormone and the production of milk.

• Le Baume Onctueux is also included in the kit: its rich texture glides over the skin, leaving a light and comforting fragrance. Its formula nourishes, firms, smooths cellulite and reduces recent stretch marks. Compatible with breastfeeding and easy to apply, it helps you reclaim your body after giving birth, while offering a real moment of well-being just for you, day after day.
• Also pack some reading in your maternity suitcase: Mama Saver is a book co-written with Marie-Claire Editions designed for you, it answers your questions about postpartum. Doubts, emotions, expert advice : it's all in there. Moms also share their feelings, to help you feel less alone. A " logbook " section also helps you organize your days with baby.

• Finally, Oh Mama Care offers you a helping hand at home. This home service offers you personalized support. Cooking, housekeeping, eldercare: everything can be adapted. In the kit, a discovery video session awaits you: a trained postnatal companion listens to you, reassures you and offers you simple ideas for organizing daily life with baby. If you like the exchange, an additional offer is offered with the subscription.
These items fit in a corner of your maternity suitcase, but they make a world of difference : less pain, more skin-to-skin contact, and a lighter mind. Think of them like a little toolbox, always ready when your body or heart calls for a moment of comfort.
Managing postpartum bleeding with the right pads and panties
Right after giving birth, you'll experience lochia : a flow similar to a heavy period, containing blood, mucus, and clots. This flow remains heavy for ten days and then diminishes, lasting on average three to six weeks. The flow of lochia requires frequent changing: midwives recommend changing your pad every two hours for the first week, then about four times a day once the flow has eased. Of course, as with your period, these recommendations should be adapted to your flow.
Maternity wards often provide mesh panties; their wide mesh keeps maxi pads in place. You can also slip some into your suitcase. Perfect for keeping protection in place during heavy flows, without constricting your belly too much!
At home, switch to organic cotton disposable panties (like those offered by Jho) which are ten times more absorbent than a classic towel; breathable, they respect healing and adapt to each body shape.
When the flow subsides, for greater comfort, swap disposable panties for postpartum menstrual panties ; they offer gentle support, are washable at 40 degrees, and follow your movements without thick seams. Choose a high waist, soft fabrics, and flat seams: your perineum breathes, and your skin doesn't chafe. Good underwear makes all the difference: less discomfort, more freedom to enjoy cuddles with your baby.

Pampering the perineum: small gestures that provide relief
In addition to the soothing Mama Cool gel strip, you can massage your perineum with vegetable oil, which nourishes the skin and softens the tissues. Massage very gently. Follow up with a sitz bath after approval from your midwife or an inflatable seat cushion to relieve pressure.
After six weeks, perineal rehabilitation completes this gentle treatment: your midwife will guide you step by step.
After your return, treat yourself to a small relaxation ritual each day: five minutes of abdominal breathing while lying down with your legs elevated; two gentle stretches to loosen your neck and pelvis; and a slow walk around the block when time permits. These simple gestures boost circulation, release tension, and center the mind, without requiring a single accessory in your suitcase.
Your suitcase is packed; so is your mind. With these few essentials on hand, you can welcome each new moment with gentleness and confidence. 🧡
