Exfoliation, a good addition to your anti-stretch mark routine
As a reminder, the appearance of stretch marks, these purplish red streaks, occurs when your skin is subjected to sudden stretching – during rapid weight gain or pregnancy for example. If the skin can keep up and stretch, no problem. But if it lacks flexibility and elasticity, if the stretching is too great or too abrupt for it, the sentence falls without delay and stretch marks appear. With targeted products, you can reduce red stretch marks (our anti-stretch mark treatments can help you!). Once white, stretch marks look like scars and are difficult to remove without expensive dermatological treatments (such as laser), treatments which are also restrictive and whose results are not always convincing. This is a good reason to put all the chances on your side to keep them away.
To help the skin stretch, you can apply a cream from the start of pregnancy. or an anti-stretch mark oil, which will stimulate the production of elastin and collagen, two fibers which are involved in skin suppleness. And you can also very easily boost the effectiveness of your treatments by exfoliating your body regularly!
The benefits of exfoliation during pregnancy
Exfoliating the body during pregnancy has many other benefits:
- By performing slow circular movements, you will activate blood circulation, which can be a little sluggish during pregnancy, thus reducing the feeling of heavy legs at the same time;
- You will also promote the drainage of fat, an interesting point when we know that pregnant women tend to store them a little more than normal, which can accentuate dimpling and cellulite;
- Finally, your skin will tend to be more beautiful, more luminous, which is always a good thing, isn't it :)
Which exfoliant for a pregnant woman?
Mechanical or chemical exfoliation?
There are different types of exfoliation:
- We speak of mechanical exfoliation when you eliminate dead cells by rubbing: this may be using a grain scrub, which will remove them, or an exfoliating glove such as a loofah glove.
- We speak of chemical or enzymatic exfoliation when the product you use will, through its chemical action, act like a gentle peel to rid the epidermis of cells. Its flagship active ingredient can be, for example, fruit acids or salicylic acid which are not always compatible with pregnancy.
Caution is essential during pregnancy: some of your usual beauty products may contain ingredients that are not recommended for the baby's health (and yours!), such as certain essential oils, endocrine disruptors, allergens, etc. Don't take any risks , and focus on products specially designed for pregnant women, without harmful or suspect substances.
The key to exfoliating during pregnancy: gentle!
When pregnant, your skin is often more sensitive and more fragile. It also tends, under the action of hormones, to be drier. You must therefore be particularly vigilant regarding the technique used: exfoliation that is too strong, too frequent or too abrasive will alter the hydrolipidic film and accentuate skin dryness. The right frequency? Once or twice a week maximum – and we emphasize the “maximum”, because by exfoliating your skin too frequently, you will not have better results and you will even obtain the opposite of the desired effect: weakened skin, dry, which has difficulty retaining hydration.
Some scrubs with grains are very aggressive for a pregnant woman's skin, and should therefore be avoided.
Le Gant Sublimateur : perfect for exfoliating while waiting for baby
Because the skin of future mothers needs great softness, we have designed Le Gant Sublimateur for them. Count on it to exfoliate without stripping and leave your skin luminous. It will help your anti-stretch mark cream to penetrate better, and for the unlucky ones who are already marked by a few streaks, it will participate in cell renewal, to boost skin regeneration. An interesting accessory to enhance the effectiveness of care.
Its big advantage? Our exfoliating glove is double-sided: one side in very soft organic cotton, for the most sensitive areas (face and stomach), one side in burlap for a more intensive scrub on the arms, legs, lower back, the buttocks – areas that are heavily used during pregnancy, where the skin tends to develop stretch marks.
The good idea? Use Le Gant Sublimateur once or twice a week with our Les Bulles Lavantes shower jelly, for a 100% relaxing moment! Proceed with circular movements from bottom to top to benefit from the benefits of these two products, to integrate urgently into your beauty routine as a mother-to-be and to continue also after the baby arrives.
