Misconception #1: If the skin has to crack, it will crack
Fake ! This sentence, which sounds like an irrevocable sentence, is one of the most stubborn preconceived ideas. It is true that some epidermis are more sensitive than others, and naturally have less ability to stretch. However, this is not inevitable: using anti-stretch mark creams is ALWAYS a good idea to preserve the suppleness and quality of your skin and remains the best advice to avoid them! And the earlier you start, the better : the ideal is to start as soon as you announce your pregnancy , before your belly even begins to round out. In fact, anti-stretch mark treatments will initially make the skin more supple and elastic, which reduces the risk of stretch marks when the skin stretches later. No anti-stretch mark treatment can guarantee that you won't have the slightest one, but this way you put all the chances of avoiding them on your side. And if, despite all your efforts, stretch marks appear, tell yourself that you have limited the damage, that it is not inevitable... and that you can always act on their appearance to reduce them.
Prejudice #2: stretch marks are genetic
TRUE ! And yes, genes can play a role in the appearance of stretch marks in a woman who is expecting a baby! If your mother or women in your family have had them, you are more likely to get them yourself, on your stomach, breasts or buttocks.
However, no shortcut: it is only ONE of the factors favoring them. Rapid and poorly controlled weight gain, which weakens the elastic fibers of the skin, a “big” baby, the age of the mother-to-be (the younger she is, the higher the risk of stretch marks), an unbalanced diet, smoking also comes into play...
Misconception No. 3: I have fair skin, there is no risk of having it
Fake ! White, Caucasian, mixed-race or black skin : all are in the same boat and no one is safe from seeing stretch marks appear ! While red stretch marks will be more visible on fair skin, the trend reverses when they lose their bright color. If you have dark skin, you should know that your epidermis is naturally drier and more fragile than light skin. This is why stretch marks are generally deeper and wider on your body and can look like real scars! All the more reason to apply targeted care from the start of your pregnancy.
Prejudice n°4: anti-stretch mark treatments are harmful to babies
It all depends on which ones! You might think that all cosmetics for pregnant women are clean, unfortunately this is not always the case. Some contain mineral oils, PEGs, allergens, and even targeted preservatives like phenoxyethanol. However, all of these substances enter the body and can pass the placental barrier. At Daylily, there is no compromise between effectiveness and health: we have chosen to ban ALL ingredients not recommended during pregnancy from our face and body products, and to have our formulas validated by an expert toxicologist. This is why we have, for example, ruled out essential oils, as a precautionary measure. You can pamper yourself in complete safety, both during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, without risks to your baby's health! And all this while giving yourself a little break in your busy life, for example by applying La Pause Douceur, the first fabric mask that soothes and hydrates a pregnant woman's belly in 15 minutes! This mask is all the more pleasant as soon as your belly becomes rounder, for example, from 5 months of pregnancy or 6 months of pregnancy.

Misconception #5: Any moisturizing product will do the trick
Fake. While it is true that massage itself plays an important role in your anti-stretch mark ritual, not all creams are equal! It's not just about hydrating, but also helping the skin soften to better support stretching and underlying weight gain. This is why a targeted product, with an anti-stretch mark active ingredient with proven effectiveness, will always be more effective than a simple moisturizing cream or vegetable oil. The key active ingredient in our anti-stretch mark treatments is Dermochlorella: 100% natural (it comes from marine algae), it boosts the production of elastin and collagen, reduced during pregnancy. It works with a complex of vegetable oils (Sweet Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Muscat Rose Oil, Macadamia Oil and Olive Oil) known for their softening, nourishing and healing properties.
Prejudice No. 6: once the stretch marks are there, it's too late!
True and false. It really depends on the color of the stretch mark. If it is red, purple and clearly visible, it is a recent stretch mark , which indicates inflammation in the dermis. The good news is that it is possible to influence its color and appearance (length, depth, width). For this, no time to waste: continue to apply your anti-stretch mark treatment (Le Lait Fondant or L'Huile Sensorielle during pregnancy) and complete your routine by adding Le Baume Onctueux which offers a greater corrective action for stretch marks than preventive care. Now is the time to continue your efforts and not give up.

If your stretch marks are pearly white, therefore older, unfortunately it will be more difficult to make them disappear completely. You won't get significant improvement with cosmetics, even with a targeted beauty routine, because these marks are now "embedded" in the skin, like scars. However, it is possible to turn to a dermatologist who can give you advice on how to reduce them, and recommend the treatments (laser or dermabrasion type) best suited to your case.
