20th to 24th week of amenorrhea / 18th to 22nd week of pregnancy
Baby develops well inside while your belly (and the rest) develops well, outside. At this stage, you have gained between 3 kg (if only…) and 6 kg (okay). It's okay, it's still manageable, although some lower back pain may be felt. You may also start to feel some tightness or itching in your stomach. No worries, these sensations can quickly be soothed thanks to the hydrating and soothing La Pause Douceur mask.
And to keep beautiful skin : we hydrate it well and help prevent or reduce stretch marks with Le Lait Fondant and Huile Sensorielle.

Do you feel fulfilled ? It's normal, your hair is beautiful, your nails too, you find yourself beautiful and attractive! Which is not without consequences on your libido... The 2nd trimester is known for that! Enjoy it without feeling guilty, baby will feel absolutely nothing. On the other hand, you risk becoming out of breath more quickly: the uterus takes up much more space, it rises to the level of the navel and begins to compress the lungs a little.
Less visible change: your blood volume has increased by almost a third and 1⁄4 of your blood mass is used by the placenta to nourish this little being inside you. Consequently, the risks of circulatory problems are more present: varicose veins, cramps, hemorrhoids (generally accompanied by constipation... happiness never comes alone), nosebleeds (infrequent and easily treated), ... And as baby uses your blood reserves, you risk having a small iron deficiency. Be careful of anemia, however. If you feel excessively tired and are a little pale, consult your doctor who can prescribe iron supplements.
Also take care of your teeth and gums which are more fragile!
Prefer a healthy diet, especially with foods rich in iron : spinach, peas, broccoli, eggs, dried fruits, almonds, hazelnuts, or, best for last, dark chocolate. Also bet on the vitamin C present in citrus fruits.
You may see your skin change slightly: some spots or scars, as well as your nipples, may darken a little. All this should return to normal after giving birth, but remember to protect yourself from the sun. Same thing for the pregnancy mask, protect yourself with La Crème Radieuse SPF 50+ to prevent the appearance of these brown spots. To find out more on the subject, you can consult our article: Why use a day cream with SPF when you are pregnant?
You can find our Radiant Cream in the Must-Have Pregnancy Box.

And baby, where is he?
At the end of the 5th month, your baby will measure approximately 26 cm and weigh 550 g. You will finally be able to speak to him in the feminine or masculine way! Indeed, the 5th month ultrasound, called morphological ultrasound, will reveal to you - if you wish - the sex of your baby.
You will also be able to see his ribcage rise intermittently: these are his first respiratory movements. His lungs are forming.
His skin also continues to transform and gets thicker and thicker. Muscles, nerves and bones always develop better. His immune system begins to take shape with the appearance of the first white blood cells.
His irises are starting to become pigmented even though his eyes are still closed.
And above all: HE MOVES !!! If you haven't felt it yet, you will probably feel its first kicks during the 5th month. In fact, it is active: 20 to 60 movements per half hour ! But hey, at the same time, he still sleeps between 16 and 20 hours a day, so you're relatively peaceful (except that it's not necessarily at the same time as you: watch out for kicks in the middle of the night!).
On the senses side, his hearing system is well in place and he can therefore react to noises , it's time to talk to him if you haven't already done so, to make him listen to music, to do prenatal singing. if you feel like it... His taste is also not to be outdone since he can distinguish sweet, bitter, sour and salty.
During this 5th month, your little one's brain development is very important. Stimulate it by stroking your belly, talking to it, or even practicing haptonomy...
Appointments, paperwork, etc. :
Your 2nd ultrasound, called morphological, will allow you to detect possible developmental problems but also to know the sex of your baby if you wish. Remember that it is not guaranteed that you will discover it. It is at the discretion of your little baby who, if he wants to surprise you, will put himself in an inauspicious position! During this ultrasound, many points will also be checked: parietal diameter, abdominal perimeter, limb growth, etc. to be sure that everything is in order and that there is no need for further monitoring.
You will also carry out your 3rd mandatory medical consultation , to check blood pressure, weight, fundal height, etc.
Depending on the type of preparation for childbirth that you have chosen, you can practice it from the 5th month of pregnancy, as is the case with sophrology, haptonomy or even prenatal singing.
If you are not immunized against toxoplasmosis, you will have a blood test carried out, as every month.
A urine test may also be prescribed to check sugar (risk of diabetes) and albumin (test for proteins, which can be a sign of hypertension, kidney abnormalities, urinary infection, etc.).
You may also be offered a blood screening for gestational diabetes . Even for sugar fans, it's a challenge: it involves ingesting 75 grams of sugar on an empty stomach, diluted in water... or more than 12 small squares of sugar! Little tip: bring a lemon, it goes better. ;)
And take some reading because you will be entitled to 3 blood tests in 2 hours.
And why not plan a little babymoon with your darling? This concept straight from the United States which is largely inspired by the honeymoon (honeymoon) allows you to enjoy a special moment while you are still together.
Go away for a few days as a couple and savor every moment. It could be a few miles from your home or several thousand. The important thing is to give yourself a break to refocus on your relationship and enjoy your happiness as a couple (and a half).
