33rd to 36th week of amenorrhea / 31st to 34th week of pregnancy
In short :
The watchword for this month: rest and relaxation ... This will be all the easier to achieve as it is the month you go on maternity leave ! This maternity leave lasts a minimum of 16 weeks and is normally broken down into prenatal leave of 6 weeks (before the expected date of delivery) and postnatal leave of 10 weeks (after childbirth). Please note that this leave may be longer if you already have 2 children or if you have a multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets, etc.), or if your collective agreement or your employer is more advantageous.
Furthermore, you also have the possibility of postponing this leave with the agreement of your doctor. So you can work longer and then stay home longer with your child. If your condition justifies it, you may also be entitled to sick leave for 14 days before giving birth or 28 days after.

We're not going to lie, at this stage we only see your stomach ! Yes, he has grown a lot since the beginning! In total, you have probably gained around ten kilos at the start of the 8th month and it is not yet over, since it is generally in the last weeks that new kilos suddenly appear. Whose fault is it ? To your offspring who encourage your body to produce more fat!
To avoid this phenomenon as much as possible, you will need to continue to hydrate your body and particularly your stomach, which is subject to strong stretching. If you haven't had the chance to try it yet, our La Pause Douceur stomach mask is perfect for this: it boosts hydration while soothing the feelings of tightness and itching, very present at this stage. of pregnancy. For the rest of your body, apply Daylily specific products against stretch marks without restraint: Le Lait Fondant and/or L’Huile Sensorielle. The Peau Douce box offers our treatments greater effectiveness thanks to the Gant Sublimateur and its two exfoliating sides to prepare your skin, as well as Les Bulles Lavantes to cleanse your skin without drying it out.

Between these extra pounds and your uterus which, inside, pushes its little comrades (stomach, lungs, bladder, etc.), you always feel more out of breath. Especially since you're running to pee every 30 minutes. Inevitably, baby descends further and puts pressure on your bladder.
Be careful, however, if the urge to urinate is still present even when you have just gone and you have a burning sensation when urinating, it may be a urinary infection. Indeed, pregnant women may be more sensitive to gynecological concerns. In this case, consult your doctor quickly. Same thing if you have itching, accompanied by white discharge, it may be a vaginal yeast infection. Here again we consult and we treat ourselves well to avoid recurrences. During the treatment period, choose cotton panties and clothing that does not tighten, as well as a cleansing gel suitable for intimate cleansing. Probiotic capsules to swallow can help you rebalance your flora. However, if you only have white discharge without itching, don't worry, it is completely normal at this stage of pregnancy.
Other minor annoyances you may encounter include varicose veins and hemorrhoids . This is because your uterus is compressing the veins in your abdomen. Blood circulation is then disrupted. To limit the damage as much as possible, drink plenty of water and elevate your legs as much as possible, which promotes venous return. Do not hesitate to consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Likewise, water retention can be more significant, especially if you have gained more weight than expected (oops). It causes a feeling of heavy legs. To relieve yourself, you can wear compression stockings (miraculous... really!), drink plenty of water, place your legs elevated or run cold water over them. And don't worry, you're not turning into the Hulk even if you've never seen your feet and ankles so swollen. ;)
This is also the time to favor foods containing calcium to strengthen your baby's bone system. A little sunshine for vitamin D (and morale!) will also be welcome. However, remember to protect yourself well with La Crème Radieuse SPF 50+ from Daylily before each exposure, to prevent the possible appearance of the pregnancy mask.

Concerning your bone system, you may feel pain in the pelvis during this month: the bones are moving apart, in preparation for childbirth. Also in preparation for the latter, your cervix becomes soft. Phew, that will make things easier... once again, nature is well done!
In addition to bodily changes, it is also your unconscious which prepares you for the arrival of this new being. Indeed, it is likely that you dream a lot about childbirth and the aftermath, with baby in your arms or feeding him or changing him... You are ready to become a mother! Or maybe it's the other way around, you're also allowed to panic and wonder if you're going to make it. Don't worry, you will see that it is common sense and that the actions will come naturally. Try to relax because baby senses your stress and don't hesitate to talk to professionals if you feel the need.
You may even become a mother faster than expected... If you have contractions during this month: don't panic if they are not regular. On the other hand, if they become regular, it may be labor that is starting... Prepare your suitcase for the maternity ward in case you leave earlier than expected!
And baby, where is he?
At the end of this 8th month, your baby will measure 43 cm and weigh approximately 2.4 kg. All its organs are now mature, except the lungs which continue to develop. They also began to make a liquid to prevent them from shrinking at birth.
The brain completes its development. It is also starting to mature. The bones of the skull are not yet strong to facilitate childbirth.
On the other hand, everything else in its bone system becomes ever more dense. Your baby therefore consumes a lot of calcium.
Be sure to provide him with a varied and balanced diet to help him in his final development, but also to introduce him to several flavors through the amniotic fluid which he always drinks greedily (so much so that he may have hiccups!).
He continues to accumulate fat in preparation for his coming into the world. Becoming more and more chubby, he has less and less space inside. His movements are, therefore, more reduced but baby still communicates just as much with you. He hears you better and better and reacts to sound stimulation. It also perceives the difference between darkness and light and can close its eyelids in response to light.
He can already be positioned head down or wait until the 9th month to do so . His knees are bent, his arms and legs crossed, and his chin rests on his chest.
His skin turns pink and is less and less wrinkled. He has more and more hair on his head... well, that's not guaranteed. ;)
Appointments, paperwork, etc. :
That's it, the time has arrived: go on maternity leave ! Ciao colleagues, ciao boss! Your well-deserved rest is yours. Please note, however, that you can postpone part of your maternity leave after giving birth if you prefer and if your condition allows you to continue working a little longer.
Don't forget to ask your employer to provide a salary certificate to your health insurance as soon as possible so that you can receive your salary on time! Also check with your employer because they can make a subrogation, in which case they will continue to pay your wages and will be reimbursed directly by health insurance.
You will have your 6th mandatory medical consultation , during which you will have the examinations that you are now accustomed to: weight, blood pressure, cervical examination, baby's heartbeat, etc. If it is deemed useful, you may be asked to have a scan of the pelvis to ensure that your baby will have room to pass.
If you have not done it at the end of the 7th month, you will have your 3rd ultrasound to check the location of the placenta, the baby's position and its development.
You will also need to schedule a pre-anesthetic consultation , which is mandatory regardless of your birth plan.
You will not escape having blood taken to check toxoplasmosis if you are not immunized and irregular agglutinins (RAI) if your blood group is negative or if you have already received a transfusion. You can also do a urine test to check sugar (risk of diabetes) and albumin (search for proteins, which can be a sign of hypertension, kidney abnormalities, urinary infection, etc.). This month or next, you will also perform a second blood type determination.
Start packing your suitcase for the maternity ward in case baby decides to show up a little early. The essentials for you: toiletry bag, sanitary towels, Daylily care products, bath towels, underwear (a pack! and preferably disposable!), nursing bra (if you wish to breastfeed), pajamas and comfortable clothes . Essentials for baby: diapers, pacifiers, bodysuits, pajamas, sleeping bag, bath towel, socks, wool bras/vests, hats, small gloves so he doesn't scratch his face and a nice outfit for the outing.
Find out in detail our advice for properly preparing your suitcase for maternity in our dedicated article.
Before entering the 9th month of pregnancy, you can start discussing with the father whether or not he will be present at the birth according to your preferences and his. We warn you anyway: you may need support (or even a hand to grind in the most extreme cases... and it is better that it is not that of your midwife.. .). And then, he doesn't have to be in the front row...
You can continue arranging the baby's room so that everything is ok for the big day.
If you feel like it, ask your awesome friends to throw you a baby shower or throw it yourself if you prefer. It's about bringing your friends together to celebrate the upcoming arrival of your baby. It is often an opportunity to receive lots of lovely gifts for the birth and to enjoy a snack or a meal. Your loved ones can also organize a blessing way, an event more focused on you than the baby shower.
If you haven't done so yet, it's time to think about the first name of this little being who will arrive.
