11th to 15th week of amenorrhea / 9th to 13th week of pregnancy
Good news: the ailments of the previous weeks should start to fade!! Woohoo! If this is not yet the case and you are still suffering from nausea, do not despair, it should pass soon!
Second good news: you will be able to see for the first time this little being growing inside you during the first ultrasound... So many emotions! Prepare the tissues... Third good news (we can't stop): the risk of miscarriage is decreasing, it's time to announce the arrival of this happy event to those around you.
And the icing on the cake: you have a radiant complexion and a natural healthy glow! (unless acne decides to join in…)
Why is pregnancy synonymous with a fresh and radiant complexion? This is because your blood volume increases. On the other hand, you run out of steam quickly. We can't win on every level!
On the program for this month: you may want to go to the toilet more often, because the bladder is more compressed than usual. Beware of urinary infections which can be more frequent during pregnancy. Drink at least 1.5 liters of water per day (or even more in the heat). This will also help your kidneys work harder to eliminate waste released by the fetus.
Still on the gynecological side: your vaginal discharge may be more abundant than before. No warning as long as they are white, odorless and you have no discomfort or pain. If not, talk to your doctor or midwife.
Moral level, mood swings are less frequent, you will no longer go from laughter to tears in 1 second (although…).
During this 3rd month, if you had lost your appetite a little until then, you should find it again! You may even have irresistible cravings at indecent hours (your darling will be delighted to get up for that at 3 a.m.), or even bizarre cravings (pickle + chocolate, ice cream + aperitif cakes...). You may also love dishes that you hated before or vice versa... In short, get ready to revisit your culinary classics! Don’t hesitate to share your own desires or recipes with us!
Your midwife may repeat this to you quite often, but beware of excess weight . The ideal is to gain between 9 and 13 kg during pregnancy, so try to favor healthy and easy-to-digest foods (think about “afterwards”, when you will certainly want to lose all these kilos, even if the Baume Onctueux firming Daylily will be there to support you :))

At the end of this 3rd month, your belly will start to round out nicely (especially if it's a 2nd pregnancy, the body has good shape memory!). Your hips will also begin to widen. There are lots of lovely clothing brands available for pregnant women, for all budgets. And don't forget the lingerie section to find bras adapted to your breasts which tend to be heavy, tight and fragile.
Also take care of your body, as your skin may be drier than usual . Feed her intensely. Another change that may surprise you: the brown line that can appear from the pubis to the top of the stomach. It is due to hyperpigmentation and can intensify in the sun. Don't worry, it will disappear on its own after pregnancy (even if it may take several months).

There is also discoloration due to the sun on a much more annoying place: the face.
This gives rise to several brown spots, generally located around the eyes and mouth, called “pregnancy mask”. As you can imagine, this phenomenon is rather unsightly and we generally try to avoid it at all costs. Look no further, the solution is here: La Crème Radieuse SPF 50+! It is the first day cream with sun protection developed specifically for pregnant women. It offers you optimal sun protection to help prevent the appearance of pregnancy mask while providing hydration and comfort to your skin. Its soft, non-greasy texture guarantees you a light and transparent finish, without sticking and without plaster effect .
Also on the face, be aware that hormones can unbalance sebum production and cause acne. Don't worry, it disappears after giving birth, or even before!
And baby, where is he?
At the end of the 3rd month, the fetus will measure 12 cm and weigh between 50 and 65 g : a pretty pear.
Its head is still much bigger, in proportion to the rest of the body (it represents a third!), but it is starting to straighten up little by little.
Hair bulbs begin to develop, as do nails. His eyes and ears are well placed, his face is becoming more and more defined.
All of his internal organs now work, as well as his nervous system and muscles. It starts to move, but you don't feel it yet. A little patience, these lovely moments will arrive during the 4th or 5th month!
Likewise, the genital tracts are very distinct, and if it is a boy, his penis is already formed. Here again, be patient before finding out...
At the end of the month, big event: your baby drinks amniotic fluid, first discovery of taste. This is because the flavor of amniotic fluid varies depending on what you eat.
Appointments, paperwork, etc. :
- If you have not yet had your first compulsory medical consultation , it is urgent to do so, because you must inform the CAF and health insurance of your pregnancy before the 14th week of amenorrhea (using the document “first prenatal medical examination” given during the examination). This is a classic check-up: weight, blood pressure, etc.
- Perform your first ultrasound between the 11th and 13th week of amenorrhea to check that everything is fine. Your doctor will examine the risk of Down syndrome (by measuring nuchal translucency). He will also check the vitality of the fetus and the position of the placenta. He will also confirm the expected delivery date.
- In the days following the ultrasound, take a blood test for Down syndrome to complete the screening.
- The risks of miscarriage being lower, you can start announcing the good news to those around you ! You can also announce it at your work (even if you have no legal obligation to announce it at that time, but it will eventually show...). Then send the pregnancy certificate and specify the expected date of your birth, as well as your maternity leave.
- Register in the maternity ward where you wish to give birth if you have not already done so and this is your birth plan.
- Start finding out about the nursery or childcare you want, or even register if you can. These steps may seem distant to you, but it is better to do it in advance to ensure you have a place and gain peace of mind.
- Get information on childbirth preparation classes : sophrology, yoga, aquagym, haptonomy, prenatal singing... Many methods exist, choose the one with which you feel most comfortable. Some start early.
- Do a urine test to check sugar (risk of diabetes) and albumin or pregnancy proteinuria (search for proteins, which can be a sign of hypertension, kidney abnormalities, urinary infection, etc.)
- Take a blood test for toxoplasmosis if you are not immunized and/or irregular agglutinins (RAI) if your blood group is negative.
